Philosophy

Hereby are some of our ideas behind the creation Audible Wearables:

  • Background of the project :
    • In 2010-2012, we created an electronic extended voice instrument called “the glove”.
    • We always start the process of creating a new instrument from the problems and limits encountered in performance and artistic practice.
    • Experimentation is at the heart of our practice.
    • We often use a trial and error approach during the development of the instrument and we constantly have to redefine some aspects of the instruments due to this approach.
    • Our idea is to be open to new possibilities to be yet discovered.
    • The new controllers and their possibilities will influence the way we will program the software.
  • Basic requirements of the new instrument
    • interaction takes place in real-time
    • interaction must be learnable
    • a large variety of audible outcomes
    • the controller is complete in itself
  • Building community :
    • We think it is important to share our knowledge and experience to the maximum of people so we are presenting the project Audible Wearables at conferences, venues, and festivals all over Europe.
  • Free improvisation :
    • As a duo performing together, we are devoted to performing free improvisation. To a certain extent, free improvisation can be seen as a collaborative musical composition in real time (also sometimes called “instant composition”), in which the performers involved have an equal possibility to influence the music in a certain direction. The music usually develops itself from what has happened just before towards what might happen next. This way of creating music is related to the way we are creating Audible Wearables in the sense that each of us has an equal influence on the development of the project and we use a trial/error approach which means that our next step comes from what we just discovered.
    • Audible Wearables will be also presented in the context of performances of free improvisation of the duo.
